Shuriken Jutsu
Shuriken or "hand-thrown blade" is often refereed as the true ninja weapon by persons who have no knowledge about the art of the ninja.

The word shuriken means "a dagger hidden in the palm"; so all daggers small enough to hide in your palm were called shuriken.
Historically the ninja used shuriken which was based upon two designs: The hira-shuriken, which was a flat plate with three to eight points, and the bo-shuriken, which was straight with one or two points.
The shuriken could also be the "invisible attacker." If a guard or enemy stood out in a cleared area, the ninja hidden in shrubs or beside a wall would throw shuriken in a spinning manner. The blades would cut the startled enemy and then fly off into the grass or dirt out of sight. The bewildered enemy, which had been slashed by an invisible swordsman, would then take off to seek help, leaving the area unguarded. Though a shuriken can hardly go through an armor protection, it was mostly thrown at unarmed targets.
The traditional ninja often laced the the tips of the shuriken in poison or attached a small explosive. Today, if in a real fight, you can either use a stone, a nail or actually a small branch as a shuriken. A true ninja has to be able to use anything as a weapon.

Shuriken Types
The bo-shuriken has one or two sharp ends . When thrown, the sharp end should point in the same direction as the fingers and the palm of the hand should be pointing downwards.
The senban shuriken or hira shuriken is a four-pointed throwing blade which was designed by the Togakure Ryu. This shuriken has got a diamond-like shape, because of the four points and the square center hole. The traditional senban shuriken was hammered thin and the ninja could easily carry nine Shuriken in a concealed pocket inside the shinobi shozoku (costume).
The happa shuriken is a eight-pointed throwing blade.
The itaken shuriken or "board blade" is a flat bar with one or two sharp ends.
